After almost 60 days of legal wrangling, South African police hype, and an experience to remember forever, reporter Julio Ibáñez and cameraman Daniel García of the company TUDN, They were finally reunited with their loved ones upon arriving in CDMX from Johannesburg.
An arrival that seemed like it would never happen due to all the complications and legal obstacles that the South African authorities posed against these two representatives of the Chapultepec 18 television company, for having violated the aviation law of this country by flying a drone without authorizationn in order to capture the training of Bafana Bafana, who will be Mexico’s rival on June 11.
Both reporter and cameraman found themselves in very serious difficulties due to this situation when they were referred by the authorities. like vulgar criminals when their only sin was not requesting the corresponding authorizations to have the best shots of the training of the South African national team led by the Belgian Hugo Broos.
After almost 30 hours of crossing, both professionals from the TUDN company were captured with effusive resentment by their families. Ibáñez for his wife and daughter, while Eduardo for his partner, both with broad smiles.
Ibáñez and Lalo García lived a true odyssey; For this reason, as part of his reports for the section Intimate enemy, which Televisa launched in international competitions with hand-to-hand coverage of the sports actors.
Both were in South Africa to monitor the national team of that country, Mexico’s rival in Group A of the 2026 World Cup.quickly gained notoriety after his arrest was recorded during a live broadcast on social networks.
After weeks of litigation, in which they had the support of the television station and the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE)the case was closed during the hearing held on June 2. After learning of the favorable resolution, Ibáñez shared his feelings through social networks.

Likewise, the journalist highlighted the solidarity of Daniel García throughout the entire process, thanking him for staying by his side during the most difficult moments. He also acknowledged that there were moments when uncertainty was great.
