With two games left until the season officially ends in Spain, Atlético de Madrid is already beginning to plan the 2026-2027 campaign. The “Colchoneros” team would like to make some changes to try to improve their performances this season. Obed Vargas would not be in his plans.

Atlético de Madrid had two strong falls this season. The “Colchoneros” they lost the final of the Copa del Rey against Proper Sociedad and then they fell into UEFA Champions League semi-finals against England’s Arsenal.

But the departure of Obed Vargas does not represent a definitive goodbye. The Mexican footballer could go on loan. His contract with Atlético de Madrid ends in June 2030.
“The coaching staff understands that they need to add minutes away from the Metropolitano. Therefore, Atlético’s idea is not to sell him, but rather find him a competitive loan that will allow him to establish himself in top-level European football“, adds the portal.
The report mentioned some possible destinations for the former Seattle Sounders player. Obed Vargas could gain experience in clubs like the Getafe, Rayo Vallecano or Celta de Vigo. In the case of “Celestes” and “Geta”, Vargas would have the option of playing in UEFA continental competitions.
His first year at Atlético
Obed Vargas left Seattle Sounders in February 2026. Diego Pablo Simeone gave the 20-year-old midfielder several minutes. Atlético de Madrid was playing three competitions and rotations were necessary.
The forward trained at the Seattle Academy accumulates 11 games in the season. Vargas was on the field for 599 minutes with the “Colchonero” team. Vargas contributed an assist in the 0-2 victory against Valencia in LaLiga.
