The Mexican artist Diego Luna He has made a big splash during his arrival at the Cannes Competition with his fourth project as a director. This is the film “Ceniza en la Boca” (“Ashes”), released on May 13 at an event that brought together stars such as Alfonso Cuarón and Gael García Bernal.

The latter took the microphones minutes before the screening to dedicate a few words to his friend and colleague, congratulating him for his work in the production based on the work of the writer Brenda Navarro.

“Being here in this position that I am in, of being a fan and an ultimate fan of the film. I want to congratulate you Diego, congratulate you in advance for such an impressive film”he expressed in front of those attending the event. Likewise, he took the opportunity to highlight the performances of Anna Diaz and Adriana Paz, protagonists of the film.

“To you for being so magnificent and for giving us a light on something that is rarely talked about. I am delighted to be in this place and with this triangle that comes together here… professor”he said, alluding to the presence of the Oscar-winning director, Alfonso Cuarón.

For his part, Diego Luna posed in the company of Anna Diaz and Adriana Paz, who play “Lucila” and “Isabel,” respectively. Visibly moved, the three artists said they were grateful and excited for the premiere of this project at the Cannes Competition, especially for the theme it presents.

And it is that The film portrays the complexity of family relationships in a context of migration, this through the history of young people’s struggle to survive in Spain.

Diego Luna’s role as director does not come unprepared. His debut in this important role came in 2011, with the film “Abel”, described as a tragicomedy that launched a critique against patriarchy and masculinity in Mexico. It would be in 2014 when he would try a different approach through “César Chávez”, a biodrama that was followed by “Mr. Pig” in 2016. The latter starred Danny Glover and Maya Rudolph.

“Ash in the mouth” will arrive on Netflix in 2027

The successes do not stop for the Mexican actor and filmmaker, because Netflix Latin America confirmed that the production “Ceniza en la boca” will arrive on the platform after being presented at the Cannes Competition. According to the first reports, The film will arrive in the platform’s catalog in 2027.

Along with this news, the entertainment giant shared the official synopsis of the story that conquered the Cannes audience this May 13.

“Lucila leaves Mexico with her younger brother to join her mother in Madrid, who had left a few years earlier in search of a better future. Upon arrival, the harsh and suffocating reality that awaits them is much harder than Lucia had imagined. Still, she’s determined to make the most of this fragile new life.“, reads from the streaming platform.
