The price of the dollar in Mexico registered moderate movements this Wednesday, May 13, 2026on a day marked by inflationary pressure in the United States and the increase in international oil prices. Although the Mexican peso remains relatively stable against the US currency, markets remain cautious about the possibility that the Federal Reserve (Fed) will keep interest rates high.

Today, The US dollar is quoted at an average of $17.21 pesos per unit. The Mexican currency had a decline of 0.24% against the greenback at the close of banking operations, after the publication of new economic indicators in the United States.

The Bank of Mexico (Banxico) reported that The official closing of the dollar corresponding to Tuesday, May 12 was $17.2228 pesos per unitfigure obtained from the average of banking operations. However, due to market variations during the day, the practical exchange rate closed around 17.23 pesos per dollar.

Besides, FIX exchange ratepublished in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), was established at $17.2520 pesos per dollar for this Wednesday, May 13. Likewise, Banxico indicated that The exchange rate for the payment of obligations in US dollars was set at $17.1908 pesos per unit.

During the opening of the day, The dollar was close to $17.20 Mexican pesosshowing a variation of minus 0.12% compared to the previous close of $17.22 pesos, according to Dow Jones data.

In the weekly balance, the dollar accumulates a fall of 0.63%while in annual terms it registered a decrease of 8.89%. This reflects that the Mexican peso has maintained strength against the US currency for much of the last year.

The recent behavior of the exchange market maintains moderate volatility. Currently, this stands at 5.31%, below the reference level of 7.67%, which indicates a phase of relative stability.

Dollar exchange rate today in Mexican banks

Bank quotes in Mexico present differences depending on each financial institution:

  • Affirm: buy at $16.40 pesos and sell at $17.90 pesos.
  • Banco Azteca: purchase at $16.00 pesos and sale at $17.64 pesos.
  • BBVA Bancomer: purchase at $16.51 pesos and sale at $17.94 pesos.
  • Banorte: purchase at $16.05 pesos and sale at $17.55 pesos.
  • Banamex: purchase at $16.66 pesos and sale at $17.70 pesos.
  • Scotiabank: buy at $16.60 pesos and sell at $17.85 pesos.

In the banking comparison, Banorte maintains the lowest sales price for those looking to buy dollars this Wednesday. In contrast, Banamex continues to offer one of the highest purchase quotes.

On the northern border and in the exchange houses of Tamaulipas, the dollar for sale is around $17.25 pesoswhile the purchase price remains close to $16.75 pesos on average.

International transfer companies also register variations: Western Union prices the dollar at $16.87 pesos, while MoneyGram places it at $17.70 pesos per unit.

Inflation in the United States and oil boost the dollar

The exchange market continues to react to the recently released inflation report in the United States. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that The Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased 3.8% annually in April, exceeding the 3.3% recorded previously.

Added to this is the increase in oil prices due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. This Wednesday, Brent oil is trading at $107.06 dollars per barrelwhile West Texas Intermediate (WTI) reaches $101.2 dollars a barrel.

The increase in inflation and energy prices could strengthen the dollar against other emerging currencies.
