The fans of porsche They are already beginning to accept news that seemed inevitable, but still hits hard. The Macan with a gasoline engine has its days numbered. The German brand confirmed that production of this SUV will end in the summer of 2026thus closing a key stage for one of the most successful models in its recent history.

The decision marks a definitive shift towards electrification. Porsche wants to focus its resources on the electric Macan, a model that has been on sale since 2024 and that represents a good part of the company’s future strategy.

Meanwhile, the firm will try to manufacture as many units as possible with a combustion engine before permanently shutting down the production line.
This was confirmed by Jochen Breckner, CFO of porscheduring the presentation of results for the first quarter of 2026. The vehicles produced will continue to be sold until stock is exhausted in different markets.
The United States will be a priority for Porsche
There is a detail that explains a good part of the brand’s strategy. The gasoline-powered Macan remains extremely popular in the United States, where it even leads Porsche sales through 2025.
In that market alone, the company delivered 27,139 units of the SUVa figure that demonstrates the enormous commercial weight that the model with traditional turbo engines still has. For this reason, Porsche will prioritize shipping the last units to American dealers, especially after the reduction of tax incentives for electric vehicles.
The transition will not be immediate or easy for many customers. Between 2026 and 2028, the only Macan available will be the electric onesince Porsche does not yet plan to launch a combustion replacement to fill that gap.
The sound and personality that many will miss
The end of the gasoline Macan also represents the farewell to a mechanical identity highly valued by enthusiasts. The GTS and Turbo versions managed to build a reputation based on powerful acceleration, quick response and that characteristic sound that many directly associate with Porsche.
Beyond the power figures, the SUV found a very difficult balance to achieve. It retained the brand’s typical sporty demeanor, but at the same time offered comfort, practical size and a supreme level of luxury for everyday use.
Even without a deep renovation since 2021the model remained one of the favorites within the range.
With the closure of production already confirmed, many buyers began to look at the Macan as a future collector’s item. The most powerful versions could become the most coveted in a few years, especially among those who still prefer the traditional driving experience.
