Iran accused the United States on Tuesday of being responsible for the deaths of five civilians in an attack against two cargo ships off the coast of Oman.after Washington claimed to have destroyed Iranian speedboats.
An Iranian military source, cited by the state agency Tasnim, explained that “after the false claim of the US Army” regarding the destruction of Iranian speedboats, investigations were carried out with local sources and it was concluded that no Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) combat vessels were hit.
According to this source, two small cargo ships with civilians on board that were sailing from Khasab, on the coast of Oman, towards the Iranian coast, were attacked by the US, resulting in five deaths, who were believed to be civilians. (efe, rtre)
Iran escalates threats over US operation in Strait of Hormuz
On Tuesday, Iran raised the tone of its threats against the US operation to escort ships in the Strait of Hormuz, a day after several attacks in the region that put the ceasefire at risk.
The United States and the Islamic Republic are fighting for the retention of this strategic passage, through which a fifth of the world’s hydrocarbon trade used to transit.
“We know perfectly well that the continuation of the dwelling quo is unsupportable for the United States, while we have not even begun yet.“Warned Mohamad Baqer Qalibaf, the key Iranian negotiator in a message on X.
“The security of maritime transport and energy transit has been threatened by the United States,” whose “malignant presence will diminish,” added Qalibaf, who is also president of the Iranian Parliament.
Since the start of the war waged on February 28 by the United States and Israel, which has caused thousands of deaths, mainly in Iran and Lebanon, Tehran has controlled this strategic route.
