For decades, The chemistry between Alejandro Sanz and Shakira has been the subject of intense speculation. Since the release of the iconic video of “The Torture” In 2005, the entire world witnessed an electric connection that many interpreted as the prelude to a romance.
However, in a recent and honest interview for Jordi Évole’s program on La Sexta, the interpreter of “My Friend“ finally revealed why they never crossed that line.
When the journalist insisted on why “they should have been together,” Sanz was blunt: “Not at all”.
The Madrid native admitted that, although the chemistry between them was dependable, Both respected their personal commitments at that time. “Feeling, I’m not saying there wasn’t any, but she had her boyfriend (Antonio de la Rúa), who was also a friend of mine, and I also had a partner,” the artist confessed, alluding to the time in which their friendship was consolidated.
An “untouchable” friendship
Beyond the circumstances of the past, Sanz stressed that today he is deeply grateful that the romance never materialized. For him, the bond they have built is much more valuable and lasting than a relationship.
“I am very grateful not to have gone through that, because I really I have a friendship with her that I would not like to lose for anything.“said the singer.
Even with the humor that characterizes him, Alejandro joked that at this point imagining anything else with Shakira would seem like “incest” to him.making it clear that the attraction has completely disappeared to give way to an unbreakable brotherhood.
Recently, both collaborated again in the study with the topic “kiss me“ (2025), demonstrating that, although love as a couple was never their destiny, their musical and non-public alliance continues to be one of the most solid pillars of the Latin industry.
For Sanz, Shakira remains her “favorite planet”but one that he prefers to admire from the loyalty of friendship.
