In Europe the five best leagues are divided between Spain, Germany, England, Italy and France. However, French football is left more relegated to the last box due to the dominance of PSG. But César Delgado believes that Ligue 1 has a lot to contribute to the Mexican footballer.
“Chelito” speaks from experience. César Delgado defended the colors of Olympique de Lyon. But it is evident that French soccer is not a common destination among Mexican soccer players.
“I hope we can see a Mexican in Ligue 1as at the time Rafa Marquez, Memo Ochoa (…) I think it is important that there is a Mexican in the French league because it really makes you grow“said Delgado within the framework of the celebration of the Ligue 1 Trophy Tour.
The last Mexicans who participated on a recurring basis in Ligue 1 were Gerardo Torrado, Rafa Márquez and Guillermo Ochoa. The last one was “Memo” until 2014 defending the AC Ajaccio goal. There is also the recent case of the arrival of Eugenio Pizzuto (2020-2022), but the Aztec could not have much participation with Lille’s first team. “It is a competitive mammoth league, I had to experience it firsthand, it helped me grow as a footballer“he explained.
César Delgado played more than 100 games for Olympique Lyon. The “Chelito” was able to conquer a Ligue 1 (2007-2008)that same season won the French Cup and in the 2009-2010 season they reached Champions League semi-finals.
Mexicans ready for France
César Delgado mentioned a couple of names that could fit the Ligue 1 style of play. “Chelito believes that Charly Ortíz and Uriel Antuna are qualified to take the leap and live that experience.
“I would love to see Charly Rodriguezfor example, because he has enormous technique. Then you will have to adapt to the physical part because you run a lot, you get in a lot (…) A AntunaAlso, he plays on the outside, he is a fast player, he dribbles; I’m not saying what power, but he has the ability to play in the French League,” he added.
