The president donald trump announced that he will officially nominate Todd Blanche to permanently occupy the position of frequent prosecutor of the United States, thus consolidating the promotion of one of his closest collaborators within the Department of Justice (DOJ).
The announcement was made during a private event held at the White House and later spread on social networks by Dan Scavino, presidential deputy chief of staff. In a video recorded in the Rose Garden, Trump confirmed that he will send the nomination to the Senate and expressed confidence that the confirmation process would move quickly.
“He is the acting general prosecutor. “Tomorrow I will give instructions for him to be appointed permanent general prosecutor,” Trump said.
From personal lawyer to head of the DOJ
The appointment represents a new chapter in the career of Blanche, who served as Trump’s personal lawyer before joining his administration.
The official took over as interim general prosecutor in April, after the departure of Pam Bondiwho had headed the Justice Department during the first months of Trump’s second term.
Before coming to government, Blanche participated in the president’s own defense in the case related to payments to silence an actress during the 2016 presidential campaign, a process that led to a conviction against Trump for 34 serious crimescharges that the president continues to reject.
Investigations and controversies
During her brief tenure at the head of the DOJ, Blanche has promoted high-profile investigations that have generated strong criticism among Democrats and organizations defending judicial independence.
Among the most high-profile cases, the accusation against the former director of the FBI, James Comey, stands out. stemming from a social media post that the Trump administration interpreted as a threat against the president. Comey has denied that version.
Likewise, Blanche supported the creation of a controversial $1.8 billion compensation fund intended for people who claim to have been victims of the alleged “militarization” of the federal government. The proposal met resistance among both Republicans and Democrats and was eventually withdrawn by the White House.
The challenge now is in the Senate
The nomination must be evaluated by the Senatewhere legislators will analyze both Blanche’s professional career and the decisions made during her period as interim public prosecutor.
If confirmed, Blanche will become one of the most important figures in the Trump administration and responsible for conducting major federal investigations for years to come.
