A man allegedly attacked a gym employee with a knife in Cheltenham Township, Pennsylvaniaafter a dispute over a debt.
The suspect, Davier Massey, 28, was arrested and faces multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, according to a statement from the Cheltenham Township Police Department.
He returned to the place after being expelled
According to the police, Massey had been kicked out of the Planet Health gym a day earlier due to an outstanding debt.
On Thursday he returned to the establishment twice. During the second visit, around 12:30 pm, he got into a heated argument with an employee that ended in violence.
The authorities reported that the worker was stabbed several times during the altercation.
The employee was rushed to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries. Later, it was reported that he is recovering.
Arrest and charges
Massey was arrested a short distance from the scene, in the area of Cedarbrook Procuring Plaza.
He faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering others, terroristic threats, among other crimes.
He currently remains detained without bail in a Sir Bernard Law County jail and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 16.
The gym closed for the rest of the day following the incident, as members of the community expressed concern about what happened.
Users of the establishment described the place as a close and familiar environment, which made the attack even more shocking.
For its part, the company reiterated that it does not tolerate any type of violence or harassment and assured that it was collaborating with the authorities in the investigation.
