More than two decades ago, the then-new reality television program La Academia, on TV Azteca México, put in the public eye the first generation of contestants who sought at all costs to win to become professional performers. Víctor García was one of them.
In 2003, Víctor, one of the finalists of the characterize, began his career as a Mexican music singer and recorded a Norteño album that was successful. However, after that event, his career was not consistent and progressed between setbacks and ups and downs.
In the following years Víctor, originally from Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas, worked in soap operas, hosted and participated in films and series. But in the last decade, his name has almost disappeared from the map.
“Why? Because I couldn’t find a place,” said the artist. “In those times you couldn’t mix styles, you were either regional or pop.”
His music, which mixed various rhythms, could not be programmed on radio stations because it did not have a defined style. But that was not so bad for the singer, because, he said, it allowed him to take a break into introspection and then define what he wanted to do, if it was really worth continuing to try to have a career as a performer.
Currently the story with music is very different. Now mergers are what predominates, and even more so, if you don’t merge you don’t exist.
“Actuality for me was the door to opportunity,” he said, “But I am experiencing the real opportunity right now.”
That is because Víctor has just released the EP “Memories of a Yesterday”, which marks his return to the world of music after this long hiatus. And he does it with a fusion of music from the seventies and touches of norteño. In his album, the artist recreated songs such as “I swear to you,” “Who,” “Puente de piedra” and “A tu memoria.” The song he is currently promoting is “Lo que te questa”, by the Argentine Yaco Monti.
“Now we are going with everything and with a very forceful and organic return,” he said.
One of the big mistakes at the beginning of his career was not having had a team; He had no representative or production manager or anyone to take charge of his career. Now he has it, he learned to delegate and can give direction to what he does.
His next album, which is already in the oven, will be original songs; Meanwhile, he hopes to start a tour after the three soldouts which he recently had at the Metropolitan Theater in Mexico City.
“It will be a new beginning,” he said.
