tesla It no longer sets the pace as before within the electric car. The market is moving fast and there are manufacturers that are beginning to impose their own pace with new technologies, better charging systems and an offensive of models that continues to grow. Now, a study carried out in Germany has confirmed something that has been discussed in the industry for some time.

BYD, Geely and Volkswagen They are currently the brands that are most pushing innovation in electric mobility. What is striking is that teslawhich not long ago seemed unattainable, was left out of the top three places after the analysis of 874 technological advances linked to the electric car.

The report was developed by the German Center for Automobile Management, known as CAM, under the direction of Professor Stefan Bratzel. The work took into account the innovations introduced by 35 automotive manufacturers and groups between 2020 and 2025, a particularly intense period for the industry.

Geely surprises and leads the ranking

The big winner of the study was Geely. The Chinese group reached 209 points and ended up leading the fashioned classification thanks to the technological evolution of several of its electric and plug-in hybrid models.

The research especially highlights some developments linked to ultra-fast charging and performance. One of the most mentioned vehicles is the Lotus Emeya, capable of supporting charging powers of up to 450 kWa figure that places it among the most advanced electric cars of the moment.

Besides, Geely continues to expand its international presence. The manufacturer has just landed in Spain and is also preparing the arrival of Zeekrits top rate firm, with which it intends to compete in higher value segments.

Volkswagen and BYD stomp

Behind Geely appears the Volkswagen Group with 200 points. The German conglomerate achieved a very high rating thanks to its developments in batteries and sports performance.

One of the most notable projects was the new Electric Porsche Cayennean SUV that promises more than 1,100 horsepower and performance typical of a supercar.

BYD, for its part, closed the podium with 171 points and once again demonstrated why it has become one of the great protagonists of the world market. The study pays special attention to the new generation of the Blade Battery 2.0, a system capable of recovering up to 400 kilometers of autonomy in just five minutes thanks to charges of up to 1,000 kW.

These types of advances explain why BYD It continues to grow at such a high rate and already far surpasses many traditional manufacturers in different markets.

Tesla loses weight compared to its rivals

The most striking fact in the report has to do with Tesla. The American brand fell to sixth position and was behind Geely, Volkswagen, BYD, SAIC and BMW.

According to the study, Tesla’s famous problem is the lack of important innovations in recent years. While other companies accelerated the launch of platforms, batteries and unreleased models, the firm led by Elon Musk considerably reduced its pace of innovation.

bmw also received praise for his new iX3 and i3especially for its advances in autonomy, while Mercedes-Benz was recognized for its long-range electric developments.

The report also leaves another powerful conclusion. China and Germany They are sharing practically all the technological leadership of the electric car. Chinese manufacturers concentrated 32.4% of the innovation points, while German brands reached 31.9%.

“Germany is making significant strides in electrical innovation strength and German OEMs are now almost on par with Chinese manufacturers; just a few years ago, the difference was much greater,” stated Stefan Bratzel.

The person responsible for the study also stressed that “BMW, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz “They currently demonstrate the greatest innovative force in terms of the electric car.”
