The Arizona government is reluctant to build a detention center for immigrants without upright status near a place where dangerous chemicals are prevalent that can have a harmful impact on the health of those exposed to them.
Low focusthe office of Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes filed a lawsuit against the federal government to block the project to be developed in the city of Shock.
According to the complaint, through the release of $70 million dollars, on January 23, the Trump administration supported a suggestion by the Immigration Service and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to purchase from a warehouse in the aforementioned town.
The objective was to adapt the property until it was transformed into a facility where up to 1,500 foreigners detained by ICE could be temporarily housed. with the aim of sending them back to their countries of origin.
It is even mentioned that the federal government has already awarded contracts for more than $300 million dollars to companies that would be in charge of remodeling the warehouse.

However, The argument presented against is that this construction was carried out years ago for specifically industrial purposes. and not to house hundreds of people as intended, since thousands of tons of toxic products are stored nearby.
“It is located directly across from a chemical storage facility that contains thousands of gallons of hazardous materials,” part of the lawsuit states..
Apparently, the designated site has an area of more than 100,000 square feet where containers with hazardous materials intended for chemical products used in the manufacture of semiconductors are stored, which could cause damage to the health of those exposed to said products without adequate equipment, which would be difficult to provide to detained foreigners by the immigration authorities.
Therefore, through a statement, the Arizona prosecutor indicated that the controversial project will not be allowed to continue.
“The Trump administration has trampled federal law in its eagerness to expand detention capacity throughout the country,” he emphasized.
