Student dies of asphyxiation at a New York school during an apparent TikTok challenge

A 12-year-old student died this Wednesday after suffering a medical emergency inside the Justice Sonia Sotomayor Community College school.located in the city of Yonkers, New York state, local educational authorities reported.

According to the Yonkers School District, the sixth grader became unconscious around 11:40 a.m. Emergency personnel went to the educational center and attempted to resuscitate him before transporting him to St. Joseph’s health center, where he was later declared dead, the Novel York Post reported.

The superintendent of Yonkers Public Schools, Anibal Soler Jr., expressed his condolences to the family and assured that the immediate priority is to provide support to students, teachers and workers affected by the tragedy.

“While police investigate the nature of this medical emergency, we remain focused on caring for his classmates, teachers and staff, who are in deep pain,” Soler said in a statement.

They investigate possible connection with TikTok challenge
