The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a motion to reinstate and increase the reward to $85,000 for information to help in the unsolved case of a 4-year-old Hispanic boy that occurred in 2016.
Salvador “Chavita” Esparza, who lived in Monroviawas in Altadena visiting family and friends when a shooting occurred in front of the home, in the 300 block of West Figueroa Drive, at approximately 10:40 pm on July 5, 2026.
Originally, county supervisors offered $20,000 reward for data that would help identify the person responsible for the shooting, a stimulus that increased to $25,000 in 2021.

When the reward was about to be issued, at the end of May 2022, The board approved a motion on May 3 to extend the offer and increase it to $50,000..
This Tuesday, June 9, Los Angeles County supervisors authorized a motion to offer a total of $85,000 as a reward for information that helps detectives identify, arrest and convict the person responsible for the death of “Chavita” Esparza.
“We hope that, with the reactivation of this reward, Someone is encouraged to come forward and give us answers that can provide justice and peace to my family.“, declared the grandmother of “Chavita”, Juana Esparza.

According to deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD), the gunman walked to the house, located east of the Foothill (210) Freeway. and shot at least 12 times, injuring “Chavita” and a 27-year-old man, a friend of the family who was not related to the child..
The two shooting victims were taken to the Huntington Memorial Successfully Being Facility, where the adult survived, while Salvador Esparza died from his injuries.

According to the bailiffs, they said at that time that A person of interest had a heated argument on the street with the boyfriend of “Chavita”’s mother. a few hours before the shooting, in the midst of an environment of alcohol abuse.
Apparently, The attacker’s targets were the boyfriend and his brotheraccording to LASD officials.
10 years ago, The suspect was believed to have possibly been a member of a neighborhood gang.. After firing the shots, the attacker got into a dark car and drove away from the scene.
