The Secretary of State Marco Rubio will travel to Los Angeles, California, on June 12 and 13 to meet with the president of Paraguay, Santiago Penain a meeting focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between both countries. According to the State Department, the agenda will include issues of regional security, trade, investment and cooperation in emerging technologies.
The visit will also serve to strengthen bilateral ties between both countries at a time when both governments seek to expand collaboration in areas considered priorities for the region.
Meeting with Paraguay seeks to strengthen the bilateral relationship
Rubio will take advantage of his stay in California to hold conversations with Peña on matters of common interest. “Secretary Rubio will meet with Paraguayan President Santiago Peña to advance the strategic partnership between the United States and Paraguay“said the State Department in a statement.
The US delegation will also be made up of the Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, and the Secretary of Homeland Security, Markwayne Mullin.
World Cup 2026, stage for diplomacy and international projection
In parallel to his diplomatic activities, Rubio will lead the US delegation during the men’s team’s first game in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they will face Paraguay.
The tournament will also coincide with the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the country’s independence, becoming one of the main international showcases for the nation.
