The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuchreported that during the royal federal administration 85 current and former public officials have been arrested allegedly related to organized crime groups.

During the morning conference of the president Claudia Sheinbaumthe official assured that the investigations and arrests have been carried out “regardless of political party or level of government.”

Likewise, he specified that among those detained are seven mayors who were on duty at the time of their arrest.

Federal authorities indicated that the arrests are part of the security strategy focused on combating corruption networks and institutional protection linked to criminal organizations.

According to García Harfuch, the investigations have made it possible to detect alleged links between public servants and activities related to drug trafficking, extortion, homicide and protection of criminal groups in different entities of the country.

The official reiterated that any public servant who has signs of collaboration with organized crime will be investigated and, where appropriate, prosecuted.

In the midst of these operations, various high-profile cases have generated national attention, particularly in states such as Sinaloa, Morelos and Jalisco.

In these entities, investigations and arrests of municipal and state officials accused of alleged links with criminal groups have recently been carried out.
