For the FIFA It does not matter that Mexico is one of the three host countries of the World Cup 2026, Well, this Friday the partial disabling of the stands at the Cuauhtémoc stadium was announced, where this Friday the Tricolor will face Ghana as a sanction for homophobic shouts in matches against Ecuador and Paraguay.
The above was announced by the authorities of the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) hours before the first match of the last phase of preparation against Ghana in this building that was a World Cup winner in 1986 and that the authorities of the Aztec team were already rubbing their hands with the entire box office of the Puebla building.
The sanction corresponds to the matches of the last FIFA date of November 2025, where Mexico faced Ecuador in Guadalajara and later in San Antonio, Texas, Paraguay, where fans of the national team once again incurred this very negative practice that has given the national team many headaches.
“In compliance with said resolution, some areas were blocked for sale to the public in accordance with the provisions established by FIFA and the operational authorities of the stadium,” was the detail of the sanction imposed on the FMF.
The Mexican authorities were forced to place blankets in the areas that will be unoccupied due to the sanction in the Cuauhtémoc stadium with messages alluding to eradicating this cry that continues to cause headaches for Mexican football.
This punishment joins those they have already received in previous years for the same situation, although so far this is one of the strongest, since it has prohibited the sale of some seats that will impact the finances of the Mexico team.
The important thing about FIFA’s position is that, on the eve of Mexico’s participation in the World Cup, FIFA could impose greater sanctions on the Mexican team that could impact their participation in the sporting aspect, which would undoubtedly represent the definitive blow, since losing points on the table would cost Mexican soccer enormous amounts.
So the fans will have to come to their senses or else, will affect Mexico’s participation and that would be the end of a very negative practice in the selection environment that apparently has not made an effort to eradicate this practice.
