As a preview of this new stage, the company presented two prototypes that anticipate part of what will reach the market before 2030.

A sedan that leaves several clues

The first of the concepts shown by Honda was a large sedan with quite striking lines. Although it still does not have an official name, the model left the door open to various interpretations.

Due to its proportions and design, many believe that it could become the pure heir to the Accord. Others point to a larger evolution of the Civic, while there are also those who see this prototype as being inferior to competing against some Toyota midsize crossovers.

Honda avoided going into too many technical details, although it did make it clear that this vehicle represents part of the company’s new hybrid approach.

Acura will also have a new hybrid

The second model presented belongs to Acura, Honda’s top-price division in North America. This is a crossover that practically confirms the arrival of the next hybrid RDX, a project that had already been anticipated months ago through an official teaser.

Of course, those who were hoping to see it soon will have to be patient. From the brand they announced that its launch will still take time. “the next couple of years.”

The bet makes sense if you take into account the growth that electrified SUVs continue to show in the United States.

Honda moves away from a total goodbye to combustion

The great novelty of this presentation was not only the prototypes. Honda also confirmed that it will abandon its plan to completely eliminate combustion engines by 2040.

Instead of moving towards absolute electrification, the Japanese firm will focus a good part of its investments on a new generation of hybrids. The plan includes the launch of 15 electrified models between now and the end of the decade.

In addition, several of these future vehicles could take advantage of technologies and developments that had originally been created for the canceled Series 0. In this way, some of the advances designed for electric vehicles will end up finding a place in this new hybrid family.
