The representative of the urban genre Archangel has reappeared on social networks with a forceful message after days in the eye of the hurricane for the statements he launched in defense of the Conquest Spanish.
From his Instagram stories, the “Si se da” interpreter explained that although he remains firm in his position, his purpose was not to disrespect any community.
“From the depths of my heart, to whom it may concern: My intention was never to disrespect Latin America or our native peoples.“He began his reflection.
In this sense, he added: “I love Latin America and I also love Spain because both are part of our history, our culture and what we are today. But recognizing that does not mean ignoring the pain and historical wounds that existed.”
Arcángel concluded the message by acknowledging the impact of his words and reaffirming his appreciation of the debate that was generated on the topic.
“I think we can understand both things: the cultural legacy that was left and also the suffering that millions of people experienced. My message was always from respect and unity, not from division,” he stressed.
Archangel and the speech that put him in the eye of the hurricane
It was last May 12 when the reggaeton singer performed at the Enviornment Movistar in Madrid in front of an audience of more than…. people. His time in this city was marked by controversy after he defended Spain against criticism for the conquest of America. and reject that the country has to apologize for its colonial past.
“Proud of all my beliefs, proud of the language that I carry, proud of the motherland that was and gave us birth. Because we were Indians. These people came and made us talk and made us believe and made us value”mentioned the famous one.
Arcángel concluded his reflection saying: “Ah, they stole the gold, that’s it. Cabr*n, what about the streets, and the schools, and the churches that they built so that you would be educated today? Where did it come from, son of a bitch? (…) I am proud, I adore my motherland, Spain. Give me a fuss, for want“.
While some followers were in favor of this vision of miscegenation, thousands of Internet users exploded in criticism and accused him of making violence and colonial dispossession invisible.
Ignorance is daring”, “I give you 2 months to start your tour to ask for forgiveness”, “What you say about Indigenous people is horrifying. The self-hatred is clear. And what does it say about our legacy to Africa?” and “Who paid him to say these atrocities?” a group of Internet users questioned at the time.
