Texas mother accused of murdering her two children found in burning car

A Texas mother was arrested after authorities found her two children dead in a burning car.

In a press conference, San Antonio Police Department Deputy Chief Jesse Salame reported that officers responded to a report of a car on fire behind a warehouse early Friday, May 15.

Inside the vehicle, authorities found the two children dead. Salame indicated that The children are believed to be 5 and 7 years old..

Salame identified the suspect as Marlene Vidal34, who allegedly told police she was the mother of the two children. Vidal lives in Edinburg, Texas, but has relatives in San Antonio, according to the deputy chief.

“At this point in the investigation we have statements made by the suspect, as well as videos from surveillance cameras and evidence from the scene that indicates that she is the only one responsible for the death of these two minors,” Salame said.

Vidal was arrested and charged with capital murder. Investigators are interviewing family members and others connected to the case.

Appearing before the Bexar County Associate District Judge, Vidal appeared calm and conscious, but when she was read her rights and explained that she was being charged with capital murder and arson, she burst into tears.

“We still don’t have a clear motive, but There are indications that mental health problems could have played a role.“added Salame.
