The decision was quietly confirmed at the Fremont, California plant, the same place where Tesla began to build its reputation as a pioneer of modern electric mobility. Although there will still be some units available in inventory, production has officially come to an end.

The move also reflects the new focus of the company led by Elon Muskwhich now wants to concentrate its efforts on more recent and ambitious projects such as the Cybercab, the humanoid robot Optimus and the future generations of the Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model Y and Tesla Cybertruck.

The car that changed the perception of electric cars

The Model S was not the first Teslabut it is the vehicle that managed to take the brand to another level. When it appeared in 2012, many still associated electric cars with strange designs, poor autonomy and limited features.

Tesla completely broke with that idea. The Model S arrived as an elegant, fast and technological sedan, capable of directly competing with traditional manufacturers such as Toyota, Ford or Chevrolet.

Most importantly, it made the electric vehicle aspirational. It was no longer just about taking care of the environment. It is also a statement of innovation and modernity.

The impact of the brutal Model S Plaid

As the years go by, Tesla continued to evolve the Model S until reaching the impressive Plaid presented in 2021.

The most radical version of the electric sedan surprised with 1,020 horsepower and figures that seemed impossible for a production car. It was capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 2 seconds and reaching a top speed of 199 mph.

That performance allowed Tesla to enter conversations normally reserved for ultra-high-end European supercars.

The Model X and its futuristic doors

While the Model S was conquering the sedan market, Tesla needed a more spacious family vehicle. There the Model X appeared.

The electric SUV quickly attracted attention thanks to its famous Falcon Wing doors, a design reminiscent of iconic models such as the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL or the DMC DeLorean.

Beyond the visual, the Model It offered space, comfort and technology in a format designed for long trips and families. That combination helped Tesla grow rapidly in markets in Europe, Asia and Latin America.

Although the closure of production marks the closure of two historic models, Tesla already has its sights set on what is to come. The company will continue to focus on the growth of Model 3, Model Y and Cybertruckin addition to new developments linked to autonomous driving and robotics.
