A Michigan couple, accused of confining their adopted children in dog cages and a homemade straitjacket, pleaded guilty to child abuse charges.
Jessica KlimpForty-five years old, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree child abuse against two of her adopted children, according to a news release from Michigan State Attorney Dana Nessel’s office. her husband, Jason Klimp47, had already pleaded guilty in March to two counts of first-degree child abuse.
The couple, originally from Cadillac, Michigan, He has four adopted children and four biological childrenaccording to the statement. The accusations presented by the prosecution involve the adopted children; Authorities have not publicly alleged abuse against biological children.
Authorities said the investigation began in February 2024, while the family was staying at a rented home in Tennessee, where one of the foster children was hospitalized with severe dehydration and malnutrition.
A subsequent investigation revealed that two of the adopted children were very underweight, They were only fed liquid food. and his access to meals was supervised, according to prosecutors.
Following the boy’s hospitalization, Michigan State Police executed a search warrant at the couple’s home in County Wexford, where investigators discovered a homemade straitjacket, security alarms installed on a bedroom door and dog cages that had apparently been used to confine the children.
“Children deserve to grow up in a home full of love and free of abuse,” Nessel stated. “The cruelty these children suffered is heartbreaking, and while no outcome can erase the trauma, I hope these convictions provide a sense of justice and healing.”
Jason will be sentenced on June 16, while Jessica’s sentencing date has not yet been set.
