An audio recording of more than seven hours became one of the main pieces of evidence in the ccase of the murder of a nurse in the suburbs of Chicagoa crime that has shocked the community of Schaumburg, Illinois.
Katherine Torbick, 43, was found dead on April 20 inside her home.a, after police responded to a welfare check request. At the scene, agents also located her ex-boyfriend, Kevin Motykie, 56, in the garage of the residence, according to ABC 7.
According to prosecutors, Motykie was carrying a recording device that contained approximately seven hours of audio. in which, allegedly, the attack against the woman was recorded.
Prosecutors describe hours of violence and threats
According to the investigation, the recording began around 2:00 a.m. and ended shortly after 9:00 a.m. The authorities say that In the audio, Torbick is heard pleading for help while being handcuffed, beaten and sexually assaulted.
Prosecutors said the couple had been in a relationship for a decade but separated in January. During the alleged attack, Motykie repeatedly accused Torbick of being unfaithful.
The investigation maintains that the man used duct tape to immobilize the victim and threatened to kill her several times. Prosecutors further indicated that He strangled her multiple times before the episode that ended with the nurse’s death.
After the alleged murder, Motykie reportedly mentioned in the recording that he planned to commit suicide.
There was a history of domestic violence
Authorities reported that Motykie was already facing an arrest warrant related to a previous domestic violence case that occurred in March.
In that incident, according to prosecutors, the accused tried to strangle Torbick and attack her with a knife inside the same home. The woman managed to escape and take refuge in a neighbor’s house before being transferred to a hospital.
Although there was an active arrest warrant, The police had not been able to locate the suspect before the crime that occurred on April 20.
Court records cited by local media also indicate that Motykie faced multiple complaints and protection orders for alleged acts of violence against former partners and family members.

Friends and co-workers described Torbick as a dedicated professional and a person committed to caring for others.
Julie Bevel, the victim’s supervisor at Fox River MedSpa, said: The nurse is an appreciated figure within the medical team.
“He brought warmth, energy and genuine care to our workplace,” Bevel said after hearing the news.
Torbick was the mother of one son and worked as a gastroenterology nurse.
Accused remains detained without bail
Kevin Motykie faces first-degree murder charges and appeared in court on May 8, where a judge ordered him held without bail.
Authorities continue to investigate the case while reviewing the audio material and the defendant’s judicial record.
