The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, confirmed this Monday that the governor of Sinaloa (northwest), Rubén Rocha Moya, who temporarily stepped down from office, remains in that Mexican state amid the United States accusation against him for allegedly collaborating with the Sinaloa Cartel in exchange for bribes and political favors.

Tomorrow the Secretary of Security can inform him, but he (Rubén Rocha) is in Sinaloa“The president stressed in her daily press conference from Mexico City.

Sheinbaum criticized that there are “many lies” on social networks in this case, which is why he highlighted the “importance” of the information compared to “propaganda”, amid rumors that the official could no longer be in his home state.

In this way, he insisted that the governor is in Sinaloa, something that the federal Security Secretary, Omar García Harfuch, had already stated last week.

The US Department of Justice charged ten state officialsamong them the governor, of collaborating with the Los Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel and allowing the transfer of drugs to the United States in exchange for bribes, for which he requested their urgent arrest to be extradited.

Rocha Moya, from the ruling National Regeneration Movement (Morena), requested leave last week to temporarily separate from the position while the Not unusual Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic investigates the case.

The Government of Mexico responded that said request does not correspond to an ordinary extradition procedure. and that, until now, it does not have sufficient elements to justify its urgent nature.

All those involved have rejected the accusations, in a case that has generated strong political controversy in Mexico and tensions in the bilateral relationship with the United States.

Sheinbaum insisted that the relationship with Washington must be maintained under four principles: respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, shared and differentiated responsibility, mutual respect and mutual trust.

The president also rejected any interference or intervention, “except in political matters,” although she stated that communication, collaboration and coordination with the United States continue. EFE
