The French brand presented the so-called “Fly Worm”a completely customized edition that take visible inspiration from a dragonfly. Yes, an insect. But far from sounding strange, the result ends up fitting perfectly with the futuristic and extravagant character of the company’s most extreme roadster.

The design was born after several conversations between the owner of the vehicle and Frank Heyl, head of design at Bugatti. From there, the creative team began to develop a concept that mixed pure elegance, artisanal details and the brutal presence of the W16 Mistral.
A shade that changes according to the light
The first thing that catches your attention about the “Fly Worm” is its special finish called “Dragonfly Blue”. It is a paint capable of modifying its tones depending on the lighting and the angle from which the car is viewed.
The effect is reminiscent of the wings of a dragonfly. At some moments the vehicle looks deep blue and at other times a much brighter turquoise tone appears.

Bugatti even applied this visible treatment to the wheels to maintain the aesthetic coherence of the entire set.
Added to this is an elliptical graphic pattern that runs through much of the body. The design progressively increases towards the rear area and seems to disappear inside the air inletsgenerating a quite impressive visible sensation when the car is moving.
An extremely complex craftsmanship
One of the biggest challenges for the team Sur Mesure was to integrate the traditional Bugatti oval emblem within the side graphic pattern.

Although it seems like a minor detail, the brand explained that it was necessary to carry out multiple tests to ensure that the logo maintained the precision of its lines and proportions without breaking the general design of the vehicle.
The final result leaves the feeling that each part of the car was designed as if it were part of a single artistic piece.
Bugatti had already explored similar ideas in other custom projects such as the “Hellbug”, “Hellbee” and “Woman Worm”, although the “Fly Worm” takes that pure inspiration to another level.

The interior follows the same philosophy
Inside, the W16 Mistral “Fly Worm” maintains exactly the same visible language as the exterior. For this unit, Bugatti developed exclusive multi-layer materials that mix premium leather, alcantara and three-dimensional geometric textures.
Patterns inspired by insect wings also appear on door panels, armrests and different surfaces in the cabin.
Another striking detail is the presence of the famous “Dancing Elephant” integrated into the gear selector. This historical figure pays tribute to Rembrandt Bugattibrother of the founder Ettore Bugatti and renowned animal sculptor.
