The president of the United States, Donald Trump, announced a three-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine that will begin on Saturday, May 9 and will conclude on Monday, May 11, within the framework of the commemorations of the Victory Day in Russia.
The announcement was made through the social network Social Factwhere he reported that the measure contemplates the suspension of all military activity and an exchange of 1,000 prisoners for each country.
Trump assured that the proposal was accepted by the Russian president Vladimir Putin and the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky.
Victory Day
The ceasefire coincides with May 9, the date on which Russia celebrates Victory Day, and on which Ukraine’s role during World War II is also recognized.
The US president pointed out that the initiative seeks to open the path towards the end of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which is considered the most serious in Europe since the Second World War.
Likewise, he indicated that negotiations to achieve a definitive solution continue to develop.
“Hopefully, this is the beginning of the end of a very long, deadly and difficult war,” Trump stressed.
