Since he left Sevilla in Spain, Matías Almeyda has already begun to make noise in Mexican football. The Argentine strategist has a good track record within Liga MX. “El Pelado” would already have his economic intentions on the radar to take on a new process in Mexico. Almeyda would be the highest paid in the tournament.
After he left Chivas de Guadalajara, Matías Almeyda took over the reins of San Jose Earthquakes of the Basic League Soccer. After directing more than 100 games in the United States, Almeyda directed the AEK Athens from Greek football and Sevilla FC from LaLiga.
Matías Almeyda’s new experience would revalue the weight of his projects. According to information from Estadio Deportes, “Pelado” could become the highest paid coach in all of Mexican soccer.
“Almeyda is looking for a salary close to five million dollars annually. A figure that would place him above any other coach in Liga MX,” explains the report.
Currently, the highest paid coach in the entire Liga MX is Antonio Mohamed. The “Turk” perceives about $4 million dollars a year. The gap is very long in relation to the following coaches. The salaries of Gabriel Milito and Guido Pizarro would barely be around $2 million dollars annually.
The return of Matías Almeyda
Between September 2015 and June 2018, Matías Almeyda took over the reins of Chivas de Guadalajara. “Pelado” directed 147 games on the bench of the Sacred Flock. The Argentine strategist left a steadiness of 64 wins, 40 draws and 43 losses.
The Chivas de Almeyda won the 2015 Apertura MX Cup, the 2015-2016 MX Super Cup, the 2017 Clausura MX Cup and the 2017 Clausura MX League. At the international level they won the 2018 Concacaf Champions League.
As a curious fact, reports indicate that Matías Almeyda had a contract with Chivas that was around $1.5 million dollars annually. This value moves away from current claims after passing through Europe.
