A 17-year-old boy was arrested for the fatal stabbing of a man in Instances Sq. earlier this week. Police sources indicate that social networks were the motive.
The suspect told the police that the murder of Leonidas Baez39, which occurred on Monday night, originated from a trend on social networks, according to police sources informed CBS News Novel York.
The suspect added that He and his two accomplices chose the victim at random as part of an online trend which encourages “messing with drug addicts,” according to the same sources.
Police continue to search for the other two suspects. It is not yet known if the incident was recorded on video for dissemination on social networks.
The crime
Shortly before 11:30 p.m., Baez was stabbed in the face, chest and back outside the Burger & Lobster restaurant on 43rd Street, between Broadway and Sixth Avenue. Baez, whose last known address was a shelter in New York City, was asleep before the incident, police said.
Police immediately launched a search for three men who fled the scene heading east. They did not provide much description of the suspects, only stating that one was dressed all in black.
However, on Thursday morning, the New York Police Department (NYPD) reported the arrest of a 17-year-old boy. His name has not been revealed due to his age.. He is charged with murder and illegal possession of weapons.
According to law enforcement sources, officers detained the suspect after he allegedly jumped a turnstile at the Stillwell Avenue subway station. Officers found a scalpel on him and quickly determined that he was wanted for questioning in connection with the Instances Sq. incident.
