Trump defends the high cost of the ballroom in the White House: “It will be magnificent and safe!

President Donald Trump assured that the expansion of the ballroom in the east wing of the White House justifies the increase in your budget, because the space will be twice as large and with “much higher quality” to that initially projected.

Expanded and high-quality space

According to Trump, the ballroom will have 90,000 square feet to allow future administrations to hold state meetings indoors, avoiding the use of outdoor tents. In his message in Reality Social, the president pointed out that recent studies showed that the customary proposal would not be sufficient for the planned events and ceremonies.

“It will be magnificent, safe and reliable,” highlighted the US president.

The cost of the project has doubled from the initial estimate of $200 million dollarsreaching now $400 million. Trump stressed that this review was carried out to ensure security and functionalityand stated that the project remains “ahead of schedule and under budget.”

Financing for the ballroom

Although the construction was to be covered mainly with private donationsafter an attempted attack during dinner White House Correspondents’ Associationsome Republican legislators requested that public funds cover part of the expense to reinforce the security of the complex.

The Senate Judiciary Committee incorporated $1 billion dollars in a project budget reconciliation law for the Secret Serviceintended to improve security in the White House and the ballroom, both above ground and in underground facilities.

Underground infrastructure and additional protection

Military teams work on the reconstruction of the Presidential Emergency Operations Center Under the expansion, a bunker that will have bulletproof glass and drone-proof roofs. Trump explained that the details of the complex were made public due to a pretty lawsuit about the construction of the ballroom.

Some legislators, such as Senator Eric Schmitthave suggested that private donations should go toward decorative elements, while public funds could cover security improvements.

Even so, approval of the project among the American population remains low: a recent poll by Washington Put up, ABC News and Ipsos indicates that 56% of adults oppose the work, while only 30% support it.
