Social programs in the United States are very valuable to millions of households, however, digital access can become a challenge. DoorDash saw this opportunity and just joined the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)popularly known as food stamps, so that beneficiaries can buy thousands of groceries and approved products at Kroger stores. This measure becomes transcendental, since it expands the use of food benefits directly from digital delivery platforms.

The DoorDash company announced that it is implementing the support for payments with the Electronic Benefits Card (EBT) and the SNAP food assistance program at nearly 2,700 Kroger storesone of the largest supermarket chains in the country. With this, millions of beneficiaries will be able to buy groceries online and receive them at home.

Integration isn’t just limited to Krogerbut also to affiliated brands such as Mariano’s, Fred Meyer, Ralphs and Harris Teeter, among others. At these stores, SNAP users will be able to purchase essential products such as meat, fruits, vegetables, dairy, frozen foods and other basic items available on the DoorDash platform.

“Access to affordable food is essential,” Mike Goldblatt, vice president of Business Partnerships at DoorDash, said in a statement. “This collaboration with Kroger represents an important step forward for SNAP access across the country.”

With this expansion, DoorDash reinforces its role within the food delivery ecosystemintegrating social programs that were traditionally used only in physical stores.

As an incentive, the platform also announced benefits for new users who use EBT. DoorDash offers $0 shipping on the first purchase made with this payment method at Kroger stores participants, promotion that will be available until June 15.

This type of measures seeks Ease the transition to online grocery shoppingespecially for families who depend on these benefits.

The expansion comes at a time when the use of these programs is already significant within the app. According to company data, by the fourth quarter of 2025 more than 57,000 stores now accepted SNAP and EBT on DoorDashand around 4.5 million users had linked their benefits card to the platform.

A DoorDash report also revealed a relevant piece of information: SNAP users are twice as likely to live in areas with low availability of fresh foodknown as “food deserts.”

For its part, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported that in fiscal year 2025 more than 42.1 million people used SNAP each monthwhich reflects the importance of the program in the country’s food security.
