Hydration points open to combat extreme heat in Arizona: locations

The state of Arizona prepares to face the high temperatures of the months of extreme heat. Essentially in the area of phoenixthe authorities have already activated measures to protect the population, through a network of hydration centers and air-conditioned spaces.

Since April 30, the Maricopa County Heat Relief Network launched a support system that includes more than 200 locations distributed throughout the valley. These points offer free access to drinking water, shelter from the heat and, in some cases, additional services such as basic care or pet-pleasant spaces.

Hydration centers will be open 24 hours a day and are free

One of the most notable resources is the interactive map that allows residents to easily locate cooling centers, hydration points and donation locations. This digital tool makes daily planning easier by showing schedules, available services, and specific features of each site.

“Extreme heat is one of the most serious and predictable challenges our region faces each year, and providing relief requires a strong collaborative response,” Audra Koester Thomas, executive director of the Maricopa Association of Governments, said in a news release. AZ Household.

In addition to the regional network, the city of Phoenix implemented its own emergency plan to reduce heat-related illnesses. Among the most relevant measures is a 24-hour air conditioning center, located at the intersection of Jackson Aspect motorway and First Avenue, available every day of the week.

Also noteworthy is the extension of hours in public spaces such as the Cholla Library, which will remain open until 9:00 pm, providing not only access to air conditioning, but also regular community services.

How to access help

Arizona’s 211 service offers telephone support in English and Spanish every day, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.. Through this line, users can find out the closest locations and available resources, according to their needs.

The Heat Help Network will remain active until September 30, thus covering the most critical months of summer. The authorities also invite community and non-profit organizations to join the initiative to expand its reach.
