A federal jury found guilty this Friday Former Republican Congressman David Rivera and the political consultant Esther Nuhfer for his participation in an operation of foreign lobby linked to Venezuelavalued at $50 million dollars during the first government of the donald trump.
Both faced federal charges for conspiracy against the United Statesyes, aact as foreign agents without registering, violating the foreign agent registration law and conspiracy to money laundering in relation to work allegedly carried out for the government of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
Rivera, who served as a congressman for Florida between 2011 and 2013, he remained without visible reaction while the verdict was read.
Judge orders his immediate arrest
At the time of the ruling, he was free on bail, but the Judge Melissa Damian ordered his immediate arrest considering that there was risk of escapedue to access to financial resources, the possible lengthy prison sentence and other federal charges pending in Washington related to foreign lobbying.
