A group of citizens filed a federal lawsuit to try to prevent a Final Combating Championship (UFC) event scheduled to take place on the White House grounds.an initiative promoted by President Donald Trump, as part of the celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the country’s independence.

The lawsuit was filed by a Vietnam War veteran and a Virginia civic activist, represented by the Public Integrity Project.an organization that argues that the event violates various legal provisions related to the use of federal spaces and could generate undue economic benefits for people linked to the president.

The fight is scheduled to take place on June 14 on the South Lawn of the White House, a date that coincides with Trump’s 80th birthday.. As part of the previous activities, it is planned to carry out the official weigh-in of the fighters at the Lincoln Memorial, one of the most emblematic sites of the American capital.

The lawsuit maintains that the structures installed to host the sports event do not have the required authorization from Congress nor were they subjected to a prior environmental evaluation.as required by some federal regulations for significant modifications to government property.

They question possible economic benefits

The plaintiffs also allege that the event represents an inappropriate use of public facilities to promote private interests. According to the lawsuit, both UFC president Dana White and Trump could benefit financially from holding the show.

The judicial action cites reports that indicate that the organizing company would be marketing VIP packages with prices ranging between one and 1.5 million dollars to attend the event. In addition, it mentions financial reports that indicate that Trump acquired shares in the parent company of the UFC. worth up to $50,000.

Brendan Ballou, founder of the Public Integrity Project, called the initiative a potential conflict of interest and warned that allowing the use of monuments and historic spaces for private events could set a controversial precedent.

The lawsuit’s promoters argue that the fight does not really constitute a celebration of the anniversary of American independence.but a promotional activity linked to the UFC brand and the president himself.

The event, scheduled for June 14, coincides directly with the president's 80th birthday.

As court proceedings progress, construction work continues on White House grounds. Large temporary structures have been installed in recent weeks, including a lighting platform and a fighting cage designed to hold thousands of spectators.

The Trump administration has defended the project and maintains that it is part of the official events organized to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.. The president has described the evening as “the greatest show in the world” and has highlighted his intention to bring patriotic celebrations to a wider audience.

Trump has had a close relationship with the UFC and Dana White for years, who has publicly supported several of his political campaigns.. Before entering politics, the now president participated in the promotion of boxing and professional wrestling events, in addition to maintaining ties with sports entertainment organizations.

The case was assigned to a federal court in Washington, where a judge must determine in the coming days whether the lawsuit has sufficient grounds to suspend or modify the event before it takes place. The decision could define not only the future of the fight, but also the limits of using historic and government spaces for large-scale private activities.
