The former head of the Mexican Referees CommissionArmando Archundia, assured that the homophobic shout that fans use to bother the goalkeepers of rival teams could be a serious danger for the Tricolor in the next World and could even lose three points in any game.
Interviewed by The OpinionArchundia stated that Mexican fans should understand or take into account that their attitude will only harm the Mexican team on the field and under that tenor, assume the consequences of their actions.
“It is a danger for Mexico, undoubtedly yes, because if the protocol is followed, the game will be played without fans and with the cost of the tickets paid by the Mexican Football Federation. I think that the people who go to the stadium to support and respect are welcome, but what is their fault that, because of a group of people who do not respect, we all have to leave the stadium,” said the leader.
Archundia said that in the World Cup they are stricter and that they will not allow any excess: “So, I think it is a call in time for everyone to support. In the World Cup the protocol can be applied. The protocol will be applied, I sign that.”
He stressed that in FIFA they are not going to tempt their hearts if the homophobic cry starts: “In FIFA they are stricter and even more so if we are local, For the most part, they will be very careful and the protocol will be able to be applied.
But not only in Mexico, but in any match that happens, the protocol that is not established will be applied. It already happened against Portugal and “That has been a danger that has surrounded Mexico for many years,” he established.
As a simple reference, Archundia stated that: “The possibility of losing points for homophobic shouting in the stadiums is a reality that has threatened the Mexican Soccer Team for years.IFA has repeatedly sanctioned the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) for the behavior of the fansincluding significant financial fines and games behind closed doors and in the last case, the loss of points.”
The details
In that sense he stated that: “It is not a problem even for managers and much less for players.”because the Mexican fans have been invited, they have been told not to attend to that cry. If there is a law that prohibits something, whether we like it or not, we have to abide by it and respect it and if not, assume the consequences,” said the former arbitration leader.
Until when?
These are some of the fans who shouted at the Azteca, the game should have been suspended repeatedly but the referee continued. This does not stop with everything and that Fan ID has already been implemented in the Stadiums of Mexico. 🗣️

Archundia was clear and said that the fans are directly responsible, because instead of going to the stadium to directly support the Mexican team, suddenly, when they don’t like what they see on the fieldthe screams begin to be heard. It already happened in the match against Portugal that the protocol was activated and that can undoubtedly be very detrimental to Mexico.
“I think that here the fans are directly responsible, because instead of going to the stadium to support the team, to the Mexican team, that is when the screams are heard the most,” highlighted the two-time World Cup winner in Germany 2006 and South Africa 2010.
He also highlighted that: “Suddenly we don’t like how the game is going and we start shouting instead of helping and with that we try to harm it. So, it seems that we are not the fans that we would like Mexico to win. That’s why I think people should be aware of how much that shout can harm their attitude.”
Armando Archundia concluded this topic with the following: “Whether we like it or not, we like it or we want to understand that word, because here in Mexico it is very colloquial that we use it for many things, but if FIFA tells you, “This is prohibited.” Don’t do it, it’s what the player tells you: “If he commits an obvious handball inside the area, he will receive a penalty”
“Well, if the player commits it, the player is to blame, not the referee, not the manager, not anyone, and here it seems the same to me. Yes, FIFA already said: “This word cannot be used” or this cry that it makes.” Well, let’s not use it, because we know that an important sanction is coming,” he concluded.
