After Jay Clayton, federal prosecutor for the Southern District of New York, and Terrance C. Cole, administrator of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), formally accused Rubén Rocha Moya, governor of Sinaloa, of having alleged links to drug trafficking, In his first public statement, the state president claimed to have the support of Claudia Sheinbaum, president of Mexico.

“Yes, of course,” the 76-year-old politician responded to a reporter’s question about whether the president of Mexico supported him.

Rocha Moya and nine other high-level officials in Sinaloa were accused of alleged drug trafficking and weapons crimes, in a case that links them to the criminal group known as “Los Chapitos.”

However, the politician originally from the same municipality where Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán was born denies any accusation against him.

“We are calm, working for Sinaloa. Nothing is going to happen. “I’m going to have my usual agenda,” he expressed, confident that there is no evidence that incriminates him.

Allegedly, in exchange for million-dollar bribes, those involved would have protected operations of the cartel led by the offspring of “Chapo” Guzmán, in addition to providing them with intelligence information that allowed them to introduce drugs into the United States.

“They lack any veracity or foundation. And this will be demonstrated, with complete force, at the appropriate time,” the governor of Sinaloa emphasized about the crimes that they intend to accuse him of.

In a press conference, Ulises Lara López, spokesperson for the Total Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic (FGR), anticipated that A possible extradition of Rubén Rocha Moya to the United States would only take place if there is sufficient evidence within the framework of Mexican laws to corroborate that the president of Badiraguato is guilty of the accusations against him.

“This Total Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic will begin an investigation to obtain all the information necessary to know if there is evidence that establishes the probability that the accusation made by US authorities has the excellent-looking basis to request arrest warrants,” he stated.

Among those accused by the US authorities are also: Gerardo Mérida Sánchez, former Secretary of Public Security of Sinaloa; Juan de Dios Gámez Mendivil, mayor of Culiacán; and Juan Valenzuela Millán, commander of the municipal police of Culiacán.
