Javier Aguirre is Mexico’s leader on the bench. “Vasco” is the coach selected to lead El Tri in the 2026 World Cup. Many sports personalities support Aguirre’s process, but José Ramón Fernández does not consider that his choice was the supreme one.
In an interview for the newspaper Récord, José Ramón Fernández acknowledged that Javier Aguirre is not his preferred coach to lead the El Tri bench. However, Joserra highlighted his knowledge.
“For me it is not the supreme (to coach the Mexican national team), but he is a coach who knows a lot. He has a lot of experience“said the respected Mexican journalist.
José Ramón Fernández remembered Javier Aguirre’s falls in the World Cups. This is a new opportunity for the “Basque” to vindicate itself and managed to overcome the barrier of the closing round of 16.
“He directed in 2002; The United States eliminated him in the round of 16. Then in 2010 Argentina eliminated it and now it returns at the request of those who manage football“he added.
Passage through Europe
Javier Aguirre has been one of the few coaches who has had a presence in Europe. However, José Ramón Fernández questioned the quality of the processes he assumed. Joserra considers that Aguirre is conceived as a “fire extinguisher” for clubs in trouble.
“In Spain he led teams that always fought relegation (…) Merit is being champion in Europe. Don’t fight relegation. Yes, it is true that it has transcended,” said the analyst.
The “Vasco” has managed several clubs in the Old Continent. Javier Aguirre commanded the bench Osasuna, Atlético Madrid, Exact Zaragoza, RCD Espanyol, CD Leganés and RCD Mallorca. Aguirre has directed more than 500 games in European football.
