Running for the June 2 primary election for state assemblyman representing District 67 are Democrats Tag E. Pulido, Ada Briceño, Paul Gonzáles and Ali Taj and Republicans Adrian Ayub and Paulo Morales.

Incumbent Sharon Quirk-Silva leaves office due to electoral term limits. She was the first Democrat in her position since 1973.

The first two with the most votes will go to the last round on November 3.

Due to his record of almost three decades of experience as an elected official and local activist, La Opinión considers that Tag E. Pulido is worthy of its support in these elections and recommends its readers to vote for him.

District 67 includes the cities of Buena Park, Cypress, La Palma in Orange County, plus parts of Anaheim and Fullerton, and in Los Angeles County, Artesia, Cerritos and Hawaiian Gardens.

Tag Pulido is an experienced public servant. Where in other cases we see young candidates who apply directly to the California Legislature without going through the undermining work in the communities, in Pulido’s we see the opposite. He took his time.

Beginning in 2001, he served three terms on the ABC Unified School District Board, with his presidency in 2007 and 2008.

He was first elected to the Cerritos City Council in 2011 with the highest vote total in the history of the city, of which he has been a lifelong resident. He was reelected in 2015. He served as mayor *pro tempore* in 2013 and 2017, and as incumbent in 2014 and 2018. Finally, he was reelected in the municipal elections last March as one of the five councilors of the city of Cerritos.

Cerritos is a residential and commercial city located in southeastern LA County, known for its high quality of life, excellent schools, and cultural diversity.

Of its population, 55% are white, 10% African American, 14% Latino and the rest Asian American.

As mayor, Pulido saw results in the opening of national businesses (In-N-Out, Nordstrom Rack, The Cheesecake Manufacturing facility), construction of infrastructure projects, renovation of parks, the water system and the public library, and the reduction of residential burglaries and responses to public emergencies.

He also served as Assembly Consultant to the Speaker of the California House, District Director of the State Senate, and most recently District Chief of Staff to former Congressman Alan Lowenthal (Ret.), as well as a member of the Volunteer Commission from 2013 to 2017, the Board of Directors of the California Science Heart and Exposition Park from 2017 to 2019, and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission from 2017 to 2019. A cluster of respectable activism.

Pulido holds a bachelor’s degree in History and Asian American Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA); a master’s degree in Public Policy at the University of Chicago.

Now, at 53 years old, he is launching himself onto the state stage.

On May 2, 2025, when Pulido announced his candidacy to represent California’s 67th district in the Legislative Assembly in Sacramento, he said, “I am running to represent the communities in which I have lived and served my entire life.”

On its website it states: “For too long, our Legislature has served the rich and connected, at the expense of our families,” pledging to defend “our interests and our needs: better schools, safer communities, more affordable housing, and policies that reduce the economic burden on working families.”

Another Filipino American, California Attorney General Rob Bonta, says of him: “Tag is an exemplary public servant who puts his constituents first,” and “we need experienced, results-oriented legislators like him in the Assembly.”

He is supported among others by LA County Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath, Congresswoman Laura Friedman and LA City Councilors Eunisse Hernández and José Ugarte.

On the union level, the LA/OC Building Trades Council, IBEW Local 47, LiUNA Locals 300, 652 and 1309, and UA Local 250 (Steam and Pipe Fitters).

For all these reasons, on June 2 vote for Tag E. Pulido for the California Assembly.
