Father and son arrested in New York for possession of explosive materials

A police operation in Nassau County, New York, led to the Arrest of a man and his teenage son after the discovery of chemicals which, according to the authorities, had been combined in order to create explosive materials.

The investigation began following a “discriminatory incident” that occurred at Syosset High School, where a swastika accompanied by racist insults appeared in a men’s bathroom, according to information cited by ABC News.

Identification of the suspect and escalation of the case

According to the Nassau County Police Department, the alleged perpetrator of the graffiti is a 15-year-old student, who was later linked to the discovery of the materials in his residence.

During the search of the home, agents located chemical substances that activated emergency protocols.

Given the potential risk, authorities evacuated the home and several nearby houses. Specialized units responded to the scene, including the bomb squad, emergency services teams (ESU) and the hazardous materials response group (HAZMAT).

According to the official statement, The teams carefully removed the hazardous compounds to avoid any incidents.

Charges against the father and the minor

The father, identified as Francisco Sanles, forty-eight years old, faces multiple chargesincluding illegal possession of weapons, complicity in a crime, endangering the welfare of a minor and reckless endangerment.

Authorities allege that he acquired the chemicals on different occasions.

The teenager, whose identity has not been revealed because he is a minor, faces charges of illegal possession of weapons, damage to property, aggravated harassment and graffiti.

The Syosset School District informed students and internal most about the incident in a statement confirming the appearance of hate symbols on campus.

Likewise, he noted that the person responsible was identified and that the case was handed over to the authorities, while warning that the student will face sanctions in accordance with the code of conduct.

Sanles must appear in First District Court in Hempstead, while the teenager will face proceedings in Nassau County Family Court.

So far, no representation has been reported for the accused.
