The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) confirmed the recovery of a 10-year-old American minor who was allegedly taken out of the country by one of his mothers, who is a trans woman, and her partner, with the alleged intention of subjecting him to gender transition surgery before puberty.
The operation included the sending of a Department of Justice aircraft to Cuba, in an unusual mission that has generated attention due to its scope and political context.
According to court documents filed in federal court in Utah, the transfer of the minor abroad by one of his mothers, Donald Trump’s government classified the incident as an “international parental kidnapping,” allegations that are part of a federal investigation supported by affidavits from FBI agents, according to reports The Fresh York Cases.
The operation led to the arrest of Rose Inessa-Ethington, 42, and her partner Blue, 32.. Steven Ethington, the defendant’s brother, testified that Rose had been “pushing hard” for the boy’s transition since he was five years old.
“It was heartbreaking to see,” he said, suggesting that the minor’s gender identity was not his own choice, but rather an imposition. For now, while the defendants await trial, the case stands as a symbol of extreme surveillance over parental rights and gender policies in the current generation.

An unusual operation and an international route
The official plane landed in Cuban territory on Monday, after authorities located the minor and the two women involved. Both were arrested that same day and face federal charges of kidnapping. The boy was returned Tuesday to his biological mother in Utah, who now has sole custody following a court order issued days earlier.
The mobilization of a Boeing 757 from the Department of Justice to Havana not only sparked theories among aviation fans, but also marked an unprecedented federal intervention for a custody case.
The journey that ended in the Caribbean began under the pretext of a camping trip in Canada. However, FBI Special Agent Jennifer Waterfield detailed a much more complex plot in her affidavit. Authorities believe the women tricked the biological mother, identified as “LB,” into crossing the border into British Columbia and then flying to Mexico City and, finally, Mérida, from where they jumped to Havana on April 1.
Investigators noted that the plan included the withdrawal of approximately $10,000 in cash, as well as to-do lists that included learning Spanish, arranging visas and storing belongings, suggesting an intention not to return to the United States.
Legal experts cited in the case indicated that, although international parental abductions are not uncommon, It is highly unusual for the FBI to deploy a large government plane to recover a minor abroad.
The Cuban authorities would have collaborated in locating the minor and arresting the accused, although no official details have been offered about the level of cooperation between both governments.

Political context and debate on minors
The case comes amid a broader political debate in the United States about medical care related to gender identity in minors. President Donald Trump’s administration has pushed for restrictions on these types of procedures, calling them controversial practices..
Court documents indicate that the minor’s relatives had expressed concern about the possibility that he would undergo transition surgery. The existence of communications with a therapist related to gender-affirming medical care is also mentioned.
For their part, the defense of the accused has not been publicly detailed and it is not clear if they have appropriate representation at the moment. The case remains pending in federal courts.
The operation also occurs at a time of tense relations between Washington and Havana, although limited diplomatic contacts have recently been reported.. The coincidence of this rescue with these approaches adds an additional element of complexity to a case that combines legal, family and political aspects.
