The Overall Secretary of the United Nations (UN), Antonio Guterres, described as “an important step towards de-escalation” Trump’s decision to extend the ceasefire in Iran.

“This is an important step towards de-escalation and creating crucial space for diplomacy and confidence-building between Iran and the United States,” Guterres said in an official statement.

Guterres called on all parties to “seize this momentum” and “refrain” from actions that could undermine the ceasefire.

Finally the regular secretary said that fully supports Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate new talks.

Guterres’ reaction comes after Trump announced that he would extend the ceasefire indefinitely until Iran presents a proposed agreement.

“I will extend the ceasefire until your proposal is presented and negotiations are concluded, whatever the outcome,” declared the American leader in the Social Reality network.

Trump justified his decision by assuring that the “Government of Iran is seriously divided” and given that the Pakistani Government, which acts as a mediator, has asked him to suspend the “attack against Iran until its leaders and representatives present a unified proposal.”

The talks in Islamabad were paralyzed for the moment. Vice President JD Vance canceled his trip and Iran rejected the Republican’s statements because it maintains the naval blockade against its ports, an action that they have compared to a bombing. EFE
