The possibility of expanding access to superhighway details in Cuba through satellite technology was one of the main topics in a recent meeting between authorities of Washington and Havana.
During the meeting, a US delegation proposed allowing the entry of the security service SpaceX through your purple Starlink, with the aim of offering a connection “free, reliable and fast” throughout the island.

The proposal was made at the last meeting in Havana between Cuban officials and representatives of the United States Department of State.

As part of the visit, a high-level official held a separate meeting with Raúl Guillermo Rodríguez Castrograndson of Raúl Castro, identified as a relevant actor in bilateral contacts.

Economic reforms and historical demands
In addition to the technological issue, Washington put on the table the need to promote economic and governance reforms to improve competitiveness and attract foreign investment.

Political prisoners and civil liberties

International pressure
The conversations take place in a context of economic and social crisis in Cubaaggravated by fuel shortages. The United States has blocked the entry of oil to the island since January, which has intensified the internal situation.
According to the US delegation, Cuba faces a “limited window” to implement reforms before the deterioration is irreversible. Washington reiterated its willingness to find a diplomatic solution, although it warned that it will not allow the island to represent a threat to its national security.
The bilateral rapprochement occurs after the United States intervention in Venezuela, which led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro, a fact that also affected the energy supply to Cuba.
