A 16-year-old girl was rescued in Michigan after being kidnapped at gunpoint on the morning of April 13 in Hamtramck while waiting for the school bus. The quick reaction of a gas station employee and police intervention led to the arrest of the suspect, who faces multiple serious charges.
According to Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Noteworthy, the suspect — Donald Fields, forty-eight years old — forced her into a van after threatening her with a gun when the young woman was on her way to class.
Another student who witnessed the incident immediately alerted the authorities by calling 911.
Assault and transfer to gas station
The authorities indicated that The man would have sexually assaulted the minor inside the vehicle before stopping at a service station.
The case took a decisive turn when the suspect entered the premises accompanied by the victim.
At the establishment, employee Abdulrahman Abohatem noticed unusual behavior. According to his testimony, The young woman moved her lips without making a sound to ask for help.
The worker reacted immediately: He confronted the suspect, expelled him from the area and protected the minor until the police arrived.
“I felt like something wasn’t right… and she said ‘help’ to me without a voice,” Abohatem told WXYZ-TV.
Suspect arrest
Local Police Department officers arrived at the scene and arrested Fields without incident.
The defendant faces multiple charges, including kidnapping, first-degree criminal sexual conduct, felony assault and firearms offenses.
He was also charged with illegal possession of a weapon due to a previous record.
The suspect pleaded not guilty and remains in custody without bail.
The young woman is now safe with her family, while the authorities continue the judicial process.
The prosecution highlighted the bravery of the victim, emphasizing that his mental quickness was key to his rescue.
