Android 17 already has a date: when it arrives and which cell phones will receive it first

Google has the clock ticking. Android 17 is getting closerand although it has not yet reached the majority of phones in the world, there are already tentative dates, a list of compatible devices and a lot of enthusiasm around what promises to be one of the most ambitious updates in recent years.

If you have an Android and are wondering when you’re due for the update, this is everything you need to know.

When does Android 17 reach the general public?

Android 17 will begin its rollout to the public between June and July 2026coinciding with the Google I/O event, where the public beta is expected to be presented in May and, shortly after, the stable version.

The system has been brewing for months. Google launched a Developer beta in February 2026 so that the applications could adapt to the new changes before the official launch. Beta 4, described as the last before the final release, is now available, confirming that the stable release is literally just around the corner.

The system code name is “Cinnamon Bun”following Google’s tradition of naming its versions after desserts. A curious detail that, beyond advertising, confirms that the system has its own identity and that it comes with real news.

What will be the first cell phones to be updated?

As usual, The Google Pixel will be the first to receive Android 17 from day one. The list of supported Pixel devices includes:

  • Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL and 10 Pro Fold
  • Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL and 9 Pro Fold
  • Pixel 9a
  • Pixel 8, 8 Pro and 8a
  • Pixel 7, 7 Pro and 7a
  • Pixel 6, 6 Pro and 6a
  • Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet

It’s a pretty generous list. If you have a relatively recent Pixel, the chances of you receiving Android 17 are very high.

For those who don’t have a Pixel, the story is different but no less interesting. Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus and other brands will receive the update according to their own scheduleswhich generally depend on how long it takes them to adapt their customization layer (One UI, HyperOS, OxygenOS, etc.) to the new version of the system. In the case of Xiaomi, for example, an extensive list has already been leaked that includes everything from the high-end Xiaomi 17 Extremely to cheaper models like the Redmi A5 and the POCO C85.

¿Why the rollout of Android 17 will be progressive?

Not everyone will receive Android 17 at the same time. As with each new version of Google’s operating system, the rollout will be gradual and could extend up to beginning of 2027 for some models.

This is not a ruling or an arbitrary decision. It is a strategy that allows Google and manufacturers to detect problems before they affect millions of users. Basically, you first update a small percentage of devices, check that everything works well, and then turn on the tap for the rest.

In practical terms, if you have a high-end phone released in the last two yearsit is very likely that you will receive the update in the first few months. If you have a mid-range or an older model, you may have to wait until well into the second half of the year or even next year.
