A woman was killed by police in Omaha, Nebraska, after stabbing a 3-year-old boy inside and outside a Walmartafter holding him at knifepoint. The minor survived and is recovering.
The incident occurred in Omaha on Tuesday morning, when Noemi Guzman, 31, took a kitchen knife inside the establishment and approached a 3-year-old boy who was in a stroller with his mother.
According to the police, The woman threatened the mother, Sara Hillman, and took control of the stroller.forcing her to walk in front while keeping the gun close to the body of the minor, identified as Cyler Hillman.
The authorities indicated that Guzmán “essentially kidnapped the child” while holding him at knifepoint and issuing orders to the mother.
Police intervention and shooting
According to the official report, the agents intercepted the woman shortly after she went out to the parking lot with the child and his mother.
The officers repeatedly ordered him to drop the weapon, but Guzmán refused and, In the middle of the confrontation, he injured the minor with the knife.
Given the immediate threat, two officers fired their service weapons, fatally wounding her. Although they tried to provide her with medical assistance, she was declared dead at the scene.
Child’s condition and family reaction
The child was taken to a hospital with injuries to his face and hand. He required surgery and sutures, but he is out of danger.
His family indicated that the minor continues in the recovery process, while also facing the emotional impact of the attack. A fundraising campaign was created to cover medical expenses and therapies.
The mother asked for support and prayers through social networks.
Authorities indicated that, so far, there is no indication that the attacker knew the family.
Guzmán had a judicial recordIn 2024 she was linked to a fire in her father’s home and a break-in, after which she was declared not guilty by reason of insanity and underwent treatment.
The case remains under investigation, and the agents involved were placed on administrative leave, as established by protocol.
Police Chief Todd Schmaderer stressed that the officers acted “with professionalism and determination” to save the child’s life.
