Fight between Becerra and Hilton closes after vote counting for California governor begins

Democrat Xavier Becerra and Republican Steve Hilton fight inch by inch the lead in the race for governor of California after the first results of the primaries that take place this Tuesday, June 2, were announced.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Becerra was in front of the partial count, with 26.7%shortly after 8:15 pm, in its first partial results.

Becerra had a slim lead over Republican Steve Hiltonwho from the polls prior to the primaries stood out as Becerra’s strongest contender. The former Fox News host was second, with 26% of the votes.

Tom Steyer registered low support at the start of the Times poll, placing third, with 19.8%while Riverside County Sheriff, Republican Chad Bianco, was fourth, with 10.2%.

However, according to the Telemundo network, Steve Hilton took first place after the first partial results were revealed, with 29%and the Democrat Xavier Becerra as his escort, with 25%.

Telemundo placed Democrat billionaire Tom Steyer in third place, with 18% of the first votes, and Bianco in fourth place, with 12%.

Both “Los Angeles Times” and the Telemundo network announced the results according to the count of the first votesespecially from ballots that were mailed, or delivered to voting centers before Election Day, June 2.

If this trend continues, Becerra and Hilton would be the two candidates to appear on the November general election ballotsto take the position that Democrat Gavin Newsom will leave.
