Marco Rubio, Secretary of State, ordered that the permanent residence cards of three Iranian immigrants be withdrawn on the grounds that their stay in the country should never have been authorized.

As the war between the United States, Israel and Iran drags on, the Trump administration has begun to detain and even expel immigrants of Iranian origin who had been legally residing in the country for many years.

The three Iranians in question are relatives of Masoumeh Ebtekar, former Iranian vice president from 2017 to 2021 and who was also a spokesperson for the students who took over the American Embassy in Tehran after the Islamic revolution of 1979.

“As an indispensable spokesperson and media intermediary for the kidnappers, Ebtekar… produced propaganda that falsely depicted the humane treatment of the hostages, arranging scripted interviews in which American hostages were pressured to describe their treatment in positive terms, even while they were held in solitary confinement, blindfolded and starved, and subjected to physical and psychological terror, including beatings and mock executions,” the State Department detailed in a statement.
