North Korea fired multiple short-range ballistic missiles in two rounds on Wednesdaythe South Korean military reported, hours after detecting the launch of an “unidentified projectile” from the North Korean capital, Pyongyang, in a measure that overshadows Seoul’s optimism for an improvement in inter-Korean relations.
According to the South Korean military, The North launched a first round of short-range ballistic missiles at 08:50 (00:50 central European time) they traveled 240 kilometers.
Hours later they reported that North Korea had launched a second round of ballistic missiles into the East Sea, also known as the Sea of Japan, without further details.
The Japanese coast guard also reported that a “object suspected to be a ballistic missile was launched from North Korea”.
Wednesday’s launches are the fourth and fifth rounds of missile tests known this year by North Korea and come after Seoul expressed regret over civilian drone incursions into its northern neighbor in January.
