Cyberattack exposes confidential LAPD data, according to report

Thousands of confidential records from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) were exposed by a cyberattack on the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Officeaccording to a report.

The cyber attack occurred in March, which compromised more than seven terabytes of data and more than 337,000 filesaccording to a publication in the “Los Angeles Times” newspaper.

The report says that exposed enviornment materials include deepest and confidential informationsuch as witness names, medical records, deepest police files, internal affairs investigation documents and unredacted criminal complaints.

Following the report, the LAPD issued a press release in which the security violation of your information is recognized.

“LAPD is aware of an incident that occurred at the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, where unauthorized persons accessed a digital storage system“The Los Angeles Police Department said in its statement.

The agency stated that the system contained investigative documents from civil cases previously resolved or settled by the LAPDand clarified that the security breach did not affect any Los Angeles police system or network.

“We take this incident very seriously and We are collaborating with the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office to access the affected files. and understand the full scope of the data breach,” the statement added.

The LAPD assured that it is committed to protecting confidential information relating to your deepest and your investigations.

According to the newspaper, some of the information that was stolen during the March cyberattack was posted on social media platformsalthough he stated that most of it has already been eliminated.

According to the Los Angeles Times, when city and LAPD officials were asked if a ransom had been demanded or paid in exchange for withholding the information, they declined to comment.
