FDA announces recall of 3.1 million bottles of eye drops sold in retail stores

This week, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned American consumers in a statement about the recall of approximately 3.1 million bottles of eye drops from the brands Dry Search Reduction Search Drops and Artificial Tears Sterile Lubricant Search Drops due to adverse health consequences following concerns in her sterility process.

According to the health entity, The eye drop bottles come from the manufacturer KC Prescribed capsuleswhich had previously been linked to products containing bacteria.

The FDA has classified the recall as “Class II”indicating that there is a high risk of adverse consequences on the health of patients who use this medication, and detailed in the statement which bottles are being withdrawn from the market with its compositions:

  • 1,023,096 bottles of eye drops for dry eye relief (glycerin 0.2%, hypromellose 0.2%, polyethylene glycol 400 1%), 15 ml (0.5 fl oz).
  • 589,848 bottles of sterile lubricating eye drops Artificial Tears (polyvinyl alcohol 0.5%, povidone 0.6%), 15 ml (0.5 fl oz).
  • 378,144 bottles of sterile custom formula eye drops (0.05% tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride), 15 ml (0.5 fl oz).
  • 315,144 bottles of sterile lubricating eye drops for redness (glycerin 0.25%, naphazoline hydrochloride 0.012%), 15 ml (0.5 fl oz).
  • 303,216 bottles of Developed Reduction eye drops (0.1% dextran 70, 1% polyethylene glycol 400, 0.05% tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride), 0.5 fl oz (15 ml).
  • 245,184 bottles of ultralubricating eye drops (polyethylene glycol 400 0.4%, propylene glycol 0.3%), 15 ml (0.5 fl oz).
  • 182,424 bottles of AC sterile eye drops (0.05% tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride, 0.25% zinc sulfate), 0.5 fl oz (15 ml).
  • 74,016 bottles of sterile eye drops to relieve tears (polyethylene glycol 400 0.4%, propylene glycol 0.3%), 15 ml (0.5 fl oz).

According to the agency, the eye drops were sold in several retail chains in the country such as Walgreens, Rite Relief, CVS, Kroger, Publix, Buck Total, among others. The FDA recommends discarding the medication or returning it to the store where you purchased it for a refund.
